This morning while I was sitting at the dining room table, drinking my black coffee and submerged deep into my thoughts, I heard an abrupt knock on my door. As I walked to the door, I heard the old wooden floors creak beneath my feet. I wondered who could be knocking at my door this early in the morning? Over the past couple years, most of my friendships slowly dwindled as they all became tired of my grieving.
I guess that Lamar had told Daniel Richards too, because a couple minutes he called me. After my husband died, he began video chatted me everyone once in a while to check in on me. They were best friends. I answered the call.
"Hello" said Daniel.
"Hello, how are you doing?" I responded.
"I'm good, thank you for asking. I was actually calling to see if you had heard the news about Lamar's meeting tonight.", he said. I told him that I had but I didn't know if I would be going are not. I liked to spend my nights alone tucked into my husband's old books.
I knew Daniel was the same way so I was shocked when he said "If you go, I'll go". Are conversation ended with a pact. We would be going together. I wondered what we were getting ourselves into, knowing Lamar, it had to be something somewhat interesting.
I opened the door to find Lamar standing in the hallway. I should have known with all the pestering he has been doing lately, of course it was him. Before I was able to get a word out, he precipitously said "Be at Alice's Diner tonight. 7 PM. Don't say anything, just come". Then he walked away. I suppose he knew that I would make up some fake excuse to get out of it and he didn't have the time to argue with me.
